Final Blog: Transformative Learning (Sunday)(Test

Updated: Jun 6, 2021

One of the most transformative learning experiences I had in this class was learning to be a better communicator and user of digital technology. Before Writing 39C I had very little knowledge of how to use Twitter and how helpful and useful it is to communicate with others and advocate for similar issues. I have always thought of social media being exclusive for entertainment. However, the class showed me the importance of social media, specifically Twitter, for advocacy. Communication was another important aspect in this class and something that I struggled on. Peer Review was an important aspect of communication in this class, and something that I was new to. I was also able to communicate through Twitter by retweeting and commenting on my peers' tweets.

Another transformative learning experience relates to my research on animal intelligence. I have always known that some animals express high levels of intelligence such as chimpanzees. However, I never really gave much thought about the intelligence of other animals besides chimps and primates. Although I focused on the intelligence of chickens for my AP, this class made me realize that every animal is capable of cognition. There were so many interesting facts that I found on Twitter and other sources that made me question my previous thoughts on animal intelligence. For example, I was surprised when I read the TIME article that claimed elephants grieve for their dead. Overall, this class has made me appreciate the animals much more, and it made me realize that many have the ability to feel pain, emotion, and other feelings similar to humans.

Some issues or problems that I had during this class are time issues and grammar/punctuation issues. I have always struggled with time management, however in my opinion it was much more difficult because all my classes were online. To improve my time management I need to be more organized and create a schedule. Despite this the weekly Twitter assignments and blogs helped me reflect on the week and keep more organized. Another issue I had was grammar and punctuation, however the extra credit connect sessions helped me significantly. In order to keep improving my grammar and punctuation, I need to continue reading and writing. The more you read and write the more you will become self aware of your own mistakes.
