Twitter Update (Week 5)

Before this course I have never considered twitter or social media in general as being a useful tool for research. However, through these four weeks I have learned that Twitter can be a valuable research tool if used properly. This week I found a helpful Twitter account @animalcog, and their content focuses on investigations of the intelligence and cognitive capabilities of different types of animals. Because I plan to focus specifically on chicken intelligence, I was searching for Tweets related to this topic. And I found an interesting video exploring the intelligence and social behavior of chickens. And to my surprise, the chickens were able to learn how to peck a specific shape consistently. I also found a tweet that stated that chickens were able to distinguish more than 100 faces of their own species.

This week I’ve checked out Fei Yijing, Daniel Wang, and Bayan Tabbaa’s blogs. My response to Fei Yijing and Bayan Tabbaa were my best responses. Her blog mentioned a couple of researchers she found useful, but I suggested finding more organizations on Twitter to help with her research. In addition, my response to Bayan was helpful because I related her idea to the Bird Brain video documentary.
