Marino, Lori. “Thinking Chickens: a Review of Cognition, Emotion, and Behavior in the Domestic Chicken.” Animal Cognition, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2 Jan. 2017, rd.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10071-016-1064-4.
I found this article by searching animal intelligence chickens as a keyword. I also already familiar with this author after watching her TED talk on How Science Made Me an Animal Advocate. In the research article Marino explores the areas self-awareness, cognitive bias, social learning and self control of chickens and compares their abilities to other birds and mammals. The conclusion that Lori Marino came to was “chickens are just as cognitively, emotionally and socially complex as most other birds and mammals in many areas.” This research article will help me understand the how chickens show cognitive abilities and intelligence.

Sofia Deleniv. "The why of me". New Scientist, September 5, 2018. advance.lexis.com/api/document?collection=news&id=urn:contentItem:5T80-DJH1-DY5K-Y0WD-00000-00&context=1516831.
I found this article by searching animal intelligence. In this research article Sofia Deleniv discusses the self-awareness of animals. One of the main measures for self-awareness is the mirror test. Sofia Deleniv concluded that an animal passing mirror test is a valid indicator that they have some sense of self-awareness and intelligence. This article will also help me show whether my species shows signs of self-awareness.
Through this activity I discovered the format and structure of credible and reliable research papers. In addition, I also learned how to properly cite research sources. I found it somewhat difficult to navigate through the UCI Library, when I was searching for articles there was an advanced search and a basic search. I only used the basic search format, but in the future I will try to use the advanced search.

Hi Andres, I agree with you that UCI library is a complicated system. It is hard to navigate through at the beginning, but when I found where I should go, it became an effective tool for me to use on my papers.
Hi Andres, I liked the various articles about animal intelligence. Self-awareness is a crazy idea and hopefully more people begin to think about animals and their self-awareness.
Hi, Andres! I was very fond of reading your blog on chickens. It had never crossed my mind that research could have possibly been done on chickens. Very cool! I am not interested to dig a little deeper and find out more of my own.
